How does Discord work?
A Discord server is a shared community space. Inside it, conversations are organized into channels. Some channels are for text and others are for voice. Owners and moderators can organize topics, create rules, assign roles, and shape the server around a particular audience or interest.

Look for a clear purpose, understandable rules, active moderation, and a culture that fits what you want. Bigger isn't automatically better. A smaller server where people recognize one another may be a better social experience than a massive server with thousands of strangers.
